Membership application Form

We are delighted that you have decided to apply for membership of New North London Synagogue. We are a vibrant, friendly and active community and everyone is welcome. We think of ourselves as an extended family in which everyone has a contribution to make. We hope that if you do become a member, you will find a real Jewish home in our community and play an active part in the life of our congregation.

To this end, we actively encourage everyone to contribute towards our Jewish communal and spiritual life. We recognise that we couldn’t function without the generosity of hundreds of members who give regularly of their time, energy, skills and spirit.  We hope that if you join, you will share with us in the creation of a lively and inspiring Jewish life.

You will find our online membership application form below. You will be taken through a sequence of short forms that we ask you to complete as fully as possible. The form may take you some time to complete. We recommend that you have to hand Hebrew names, Yahrzeit and conversion information, if applicable and bank details.

Your application will go to the Synagogue Management Committee when we receive your completed application form, Direct Debit mandate (and Gift Aid form if appropriate). When you are formally welcomed as a full member, you will be contacted by someone from our New Member Team, invited to an event to meet other new members and the team at NNLS and placed on our mailing list. In the meantime, you are most welcome to attend activities and services. If you have any queries regarding the membership procedure, please contact the Synagogue office.

We thank you for considering New North London as your community and look forward to meeting you in person.

Burial Scheme

NNLS is a member of the Jewish Joint Burial Society (JJBS) to which a compulsory fee (£62 per adult) is payable in addition to your synagogue subscription. This will entitle a member, after 6 months of membership, to a burial at the Western Cemetery Cheshunt.

There is also an option for Woodland Burial at Cheshunt for which there is an additional one-off fee of £2,150 for a single plot (£2,550 for a double plot). You can find out more about Woodland Burial here.

Please indicate your burial intentions

NNLS is a member of the Jewish Joint Burial Society (JJBS) to which a compulsory fee (£62 per adult) is payable for all Jewish members in addition to your synagogue subscription. This will entitle a member, after 6 months of membership, to a burial at the Western Cemetery Cheshunt.

Non-Jewish partners are also able to be members of the JJBS scheme if they wish to but this is not compulsory. The scheme allows mixed faith couples to be buried together in a double depth grave in either the Woodland or Lawn sections of the Cemetery.

The Woodland Cemetery allows members to choose to be buried in an environmentally-friendly way, in a beautiful natural environment, surrounded by newly planted trees. The burial can include a coffin made from plain wood, bamboo or wicker, all which decompose naturally. If you wish, the grave can be marked with a small flat gravestone which is intended to sink into the ground over the years. There is an additional one-off fee of £2,550 for a double depth grave in the Woodland Cemetery.

The Lawn section provides a green alternative with graves being marked by a simple upright stone. There is no additional fee for the Lawn section.

You can find out more about Woodland Burial here.

Please indicate your burial intentions
